SARS Releases The Preliminary Trade Statistics For April 2026

1 June 2026 – South Africa recorded a preliminary trade balance surplus of R15.2 billion in April 2026. This surplus was attributable to exports of R190.6 billion and imports of R175.4 billion, inclusive of trade with Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Namibia (BELN).

The year-to-date (01 January to 30 April 2026) preliminary trade balance surplus of R89.3 billion was higher than the R39.8 billion trade balance surplus for the comparable period in 2025.

On a year-on-year basis, export flows for April 2026 (R190.6 billion) were 14.8% higher compared to R165.9 billion recorded in April 2025. Import flows were higher by 15.3%, having increased from R152.1 billion in April 2025 to R175.4 billion in the current period.
