Export and Import Unit Value Indices, May 2019

31 July 2019 – Exports: The UVI for exported commodities shows an annual rate of change of 4,8% in May 2019. From April 2019 to May 2019 the UVI for exported commodities increased by 0,3%.

The main contributors to the annual rate of 4,8% were metal products, machinery and equipment (3,0 percentage points) and ores and minerals (2,6 percentage points).

The main contributors to the monthly increase of 0,3% were metal products, machinery and equipment (0,2 of a percentage point) and beverages (0,2 of a percentage point).

Imports: The UVI for imported commodities shows an annual rate of change of -0,5% in May 2019. From April 2019 to May 2019 the UVI for imported commodities decreased by 0,2%.

The main contributors to the annual rate of -0,5% were other transportable goods (-2,7 percentage points), metal products, machinery and equipment (-0,6 of a percentage point) and crude petroleum (3,5 percentage points).

The main contributors to the monthly decrease of 0,2% were metal products, machinery and equipment (-0,6 of a percentage point), other transportable goods (-0,4 of a percentage point) and crude petroleum (0,9 of a percentage point). Source (StatsSA) https://bit.ly/2Zp9mJk
